Reply Voting Software Applications
There are multiple software applications available for all the Reply keypads
and they can be split into 3 different types; Stand-Alone, PowerPoint compatible
and specialist game software.
The Power Point compatible voting applications work, as the name suggests,
within PowerPoint and are very good voting programmes for education and
training sessions where the trainer is also presenting and operating the
computer. PowerPoint voting applications though are not generally as flexible
in use as the Stand-Alone voting programmes and because they rely heavily
on PowerPoint they are also by certain PowerPoint features and the session
has to follow a relatively inflexible itinerary.
PowerPoint based voting programmes include Powercom and BSW.
The Stand-Alone voting applications have been developed to be voting software
applications with high quality presentation capabilities. They are extremely
flexible in use in that once the voting session has started the presenter
can repeat questions at whim, compare answers from the previous time the
question was asked, jump forwards over questions, jump back to ask missed
questions and ask impromptu questions amongst other features.
Although Stand-Alone voting applications have may PowerPoint type presentation
features such as fly-ins and fly-outs, transitions, sound and video clips
they cannot usually equal PowerPoint as a presentation software.
The specialist games software usually involves keypads moving icons around
a screen.
During a conference, the presenter is not usually operating the computer
that has the presentation on it, the presenter is usually using a buzzer
to send a “next slide please” signal to the operator back stage.
When it is time for a voting session to be started the computer with the
voting system attached is switched over to the projector system and once
again operated by an operator back stage. The audience don’t see this
though, they see a seamless presentation where the slides advance miraculously
and questions come up to be voted upon.
Here are some of the most popular Reply based voting programes.
Most voting applications generally do similar things – they just
do them in different ways. They can all use customised backgrounds; insert
pictures; play video and music files; show demographic cuts; have the choice
of different graphs; show comparison graphs; save data to spreadsheets;
use participant lists and many more.
